What is NLP- Neuro Linguistic Programming?

NLP is interested in HOW our thoughts, actions and feelings work together right now to produce our experience. Founded on the modern sciences of biology, linguistics and information, NLP begins with new principles of how the mind / brain works. The words we use reflect an inner, subconscious perception of our problems. If these words and perceptions are inaccurate, they will create an underlying problem as long as we continue to use and to think them. Our attitudes are, in a sense, a self-fulfilling prophecy.

NLP will help you get out of these unhealthy traits and replace them with positive thoughts, and patterns that promote wellness.

What does NLP mean?

Neuro:

The nervous system (the mind), through which our experience is processed via five senses:
Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, Olfactory (Smell), Gustatory (Taste)

Linguistic:

Language and other nonverbal communication systems through which our neural representations are coded, ordered and given meaning.
Includes: Pictures, Sounds, Feelings, Tastes, Smells, Words (Self Talk)

Programming:

The ability to discover and utilize the programs that we run (our communication to ourselves and others) in our neurological systems to achieve out specific and desired outcomes.

How does it work?

As an NLP therapist we will analyse your body language, words and phrases you use in describing your symptoms or concerns and after determining problems in your perception, we will help you understand the root cause. We will help you remodel your thoughts and mental associations in order to fix your preconceived notions. These preconceived notions may be keeping you from achieving the success you deserve.

Where can NLP be used?

Many people use NLP to help them become more effective in their chosen field or for their own personal development. Enabling them to become more confident and motivated, NLP can be used in a wide area of applications ranging from business, sport, education, team building, sales, marketing, personal development, leadership and coaching. NLP techniques provide the opportunity to grow and develop, helping us fulfill our potential and the best we can be.

Personally and in business:

What you can expect in an NLP session

NLP can be carried out in the work place or based at one of our therapy rooms and a session will last approximately 1 hour. Initially you will have a consultation, where we will produce an action plan for future sessions and content.

Sub-modalities

The qualities and attributes of the representations you make using your five senses are called modalities. For example if you think about a dog, this evokes different reactions in people depending on what we perceive. One person may visualise a cute, little dog. Another person may think of a vicious big dog chasing after them. What is the colour of the dog? Our imagery and the reaction to it can change depending on whether we see it “in vibrant colour” or “black and white”. Make the colour more vibrant and what is the reaction you get as a result? Now move the picture further out and see how it “changes.”

The information can be represented in different ways based on our feelings, prejudices and value systems. These values are unique to each of us. It is part of our “internal” system. These are our sub modalities.

VAK – Visual-Auditory Kinaesthetic

The VAK learning styles model provides a very easy and quick reference inventory by which to assess people’s preferred learning styles, and then most importantly, to design learning methods and experiences that match people’s preferences.
